Skipper's Report

Cruising out in the morning with a beautiful calm ocean was perfect. The weather has been stunning the last two and a half weeks which is lead to some amazing ocean conditions and the visibility everywhere is perfect. Our snorkellers have had 15-20m of visibility and it is really like looking through air. Our day cruise was mostly young people and one couple had a wee boy who was a real character. Overall it was a stunning day, snorkelling at palm beach and spending two sunny hours on Motuarohia. Sonja even found some nudibranch in the larger of the twin lagoons.

Nudibranch - which means naked gill, there are around 80 species found of nudibranchs found in New Zealand waters. They are molluscs, belonging to the gastropod family, along with snails, paua and limpets).  A nudibranch is also known as a sea slug, and they are essentially gastropods that have little or no shell (or lose it at early stages of development).
